Equipment

  • 1 Slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1.5 cups barbecue sauce
  • 0.25 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Place the chicken in the slow cooker, then pour the barbecue sauce, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper over the top.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and easy to shred.
  • Remove the chicken and shred it with two forks. Return it to the crockpot and stir well so every piece gets coated in sauce.
  • Cook for another 15 to 20 minutes on low if you want the chicken to absorb even more flavor before serving.
  • Spoon the BBQ chicken onto buns, plates, or bowls, then add your favorite sides and enjoy.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, warm gently and add a splash of broth or extra barbecue sauce if needed.
